  1. This is an interesting article. It reminds me of the first chapter in Po Bronson's book "Nurture Shock" where he covers a wealth of research that shows we give too much praise to our children and in the process harm their self-esteem. The irony being, of course, that we thought we were bolstering their self-esteem. I like Bronson's take on it more than Kohn's, though. For Bronson, he assumes the parents have good motives, not lazy motives, when they over praise their children. Either way, both Kohn and Bronson suggest similiar alternatives to consider doing when we feel too often the need to praise our children's actions, papers, and artwork. Thanks for the read. Lyn
